The Story
Panzerotti, Pesto, and a Pizzaiolo's Full-Circle Return
For Aurel Xhepexhiu, opening Rome to Brooklyn's Greenpoint location was a full-circle moment — it's the neighborhood where he first learned to make pizza. Aurel has been in the pizza business since he was a teenager and has over 20 years of experience at some of NYC's most famous spots, including Manhattan institutions like Artichoke Pizza and Brooklyn Pizza Masters. That pedigree shows in a menu that fuses classic New York style with Roman and Italian influences — grandma slices and vodka pies sit alongside panzerotti (fried, stuffed calzones native to Puglia) and Sicilian arancini. Standouts include a burrata, pesto, and vodka pie, and a wild mushroom pie finished with truffle oil, rosemary, and taleggio. The Greenpoint space is significantly larger than the original Grand Street location, with mahogany counters, marble accents, and dedicated seating for the neighborhood to settle in.
